Defining Self-help Groups

What is a Self-Help Group?

Usually, within a self-help group, there will be people at many different stages of a particular trauma, situation or condition. Those who have been living with a problem successfully for many months, can provide inspiration and how-to help for those who are just beginning their journey.

Who Leads Self-Help Groups?

Most of these groups are moderated by professionals, so there is no need to be worried about what you will learn. They are also sworn to confidentiality, so your voice, if you choose to express your problem, is safe and will not leave the confines of the group.

Will a Self-Help Group Really Help?

The best way to find out more about them and if they will work for you is to visit one and see for yourself. My sister attended a self-help group for grieving the loss of a loved one and she found it quite helpful.

Live in Peace

Forming friendships of like-minded people can help you find your way out of the trauma that is affecting your daily life.

Misery Loves Company

Misery loves company, as they say, and this gathering of suffering can form a comradery among those who have been through it before and those who are seeking to re-enter the world and experience the joys of life.

A successful self-help group will change the mindset from "misery loves company" to "LIFE IS GOOD!"
